Notes/Trivia:
- The title is pronounced "Morris".
- E.M. Forster wrote Maurice from 1913 onwards, yet resisted its publication during his lifetime because of public and legal attitudes to homosexuality; a note found on the manuscript read: "Publishable, but worth it?". It was only published in 1971, a year after Forster's death.
- A stage adaptation of the novel, written by Roger Parsley and Andy Graham, was first produced in the UK in 1998.
- Twenty years after the release of Maurice, James Wilby and Rupert Graves again co-starred as gay characters in another movie, Clapham Junction.
