Notes/Trivia:
- The first sequel to 1984's A Nightmare on Elm Street. Six more sequels followed from 1987 to 2003 as well as a remake in 2010.
- Largely regarded as having distinct homoerotic subtext. The main character of Jesse (played by out actor Mark Patton) can be read as a teenage boy struggling with his sexuality, wrestling with whether to come out or not and having his own sexual desires manifested by Freddy Krueger; his object of affection is not the girl next door, but his male best friend. However, the most obvious (blatantly so) example is Jesse's encounter with his gym teacher in a gay S&M leather bar.
- For years, the filmmakers said that any homoeroticism in the film was unintentional, but Freddy's Revenge screenwriter David Chaskin finally admitted (in the 2010 documentary Never Sleep Again: The Elm Street Legacy) that the homosexual themes were intentionally written into the script. And although director Jack Sholder has said that he was completely unaware that Chaskin had done this, he still managed to make the gay themes even more explicit in the film than what they were in the original screenplay.
- Mark Patton's Jesse Walsh is regarded by horror film afficiandos as mainstream cinema's first male "scream queen".
